After gaining strength in desktop browser share, Firefox to release browser for mobile phones
The head of Mozilla, the company owning open source Firefox browser, Mr. Jay Sullivan has informed that very soon Firefox is going to launch a browser for mobile, Fennec, which will be initially available for Nokia's N900 phone.
Fennec is an open source browser, which will be able to synchronize with the desktop version, which will enable the user to view the web pages on the mobile which he will open on the desktop. The Mozilla's add-on store will be available for the Fennec, which offers both free and paid applications in the store.
Firefox has already reigned a large part of the desktop browser market. But in the mobile browser segment, Opera Mini is the market leader followed by Safari and Nokia. Among these browsers Safari only works on Nokia phones. So there will be a tight competition between the Opera Mini and the Fennec.
Reports state that the latest version of the Firefox Browser has defeated the Internet Explorer 7, as Firefox has managed to takeover 21.93 percent of the desktop browser as compared to the Internet explorer's share of 21.2%.
The new browser, Fennec has been put under testing and will be introduced before the end of the year.
