Afghan Taliban commander killed, ISAF says
Kabul - A Taliban commander was killed in Logar province in central Afghanistan in a joint operation by Afghan and international troops, a spokesman of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Tuesday.
The commander, identified as Muhammed Bobi, was responsible for suicide attacks against civilians and security forces, ISAF said in a statement. He also kidnapped and tortured civilians, it alleged.
Bobi attacked the troops and refused to surrender, ISAF added.
"Bobi's death will have a significant effect on the Taliban's ability to conduct operations in the province," Brigardier General Richard Blanchette said.
The Taliban had previously considerably extended its influence in the province, which is located south of the capital Kabul. (dpa)
