It has acquired South Carolina munitions cleanup and environment remediation solutions provider Advent Environmental Inc., Versar Inc. said on Thursday.

Security and defense professional services company Versar announced the acquisition in a strategic move to strengthen its munitions response and unexploded ordinance cleanup capabilities.

Advent Environmental is regularly selected by Defense Department agencies for munitions cleanup task orders including an announced contract Tuesday from the Army Environmental Command for explosive threats removal at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant in Illinois.

Versar Chief Executive Officer Tony Otten said in a statement, "The acquisition of Advent Environmental is a great strategic fit for Versar."

He further added, "We are extremely excited about the opportunities this combination offers. Our cultures are similar and Advent's technical capabilities compliment our own. Military munitions response plans and unexploded ordinance cleanup are a major new Versar initiative, which will move ahead faster and become stronger with the joint Advent-Versar resources."
