52 percent underemployed receive coverage through government programsA U.S. survey has indicated that of the underemployed who have insurance, 52 percent receive coverage through a government program.

The Gallup tracking poll also indicates that by contrast, 76 percent of employed workers have insurance through an employer or a union.

Gallup says in a statement that if the underemployed are more able to purchase healthcare insurance in the future, they likely will be able to increase preventative behaviors such as visiting a doctor or a dentist.

The survey further indicated that the 41 percent of underemployed U.S. adults are among those who stand to benefit from healthcare reform legislation. However, many of the new healthcare reform provisions are set to begin in 2014.

The finding are based on Gallup daily tracking interviews with a random sample of 39,255 working adults from Jan. 2 to Feb. 28, has a margin of error of 1 percentage point. (With Inputs from Agencies)
