48 per cent employers struggling to fill jobs, survey
According to a new survey, about 48 per cent of the employers in India are finding it difficult to fill vacant jobs due to shortage of talent.
The ManpowerGroup India's annual talent shortage survey showed that employers in India are "struggling" to fill critical positions in their companies. The respondents said that positions in IT, marketing, public relations and communications are the most difficult to fill in the country.
The figure of 48 per cent is 19 per cent lower than last year but is still higher than the global average of 34 per cent. However, the country's position is better than other developed nations like the US, Australia and Japan.
Japan is ranked at the top on the list with 81 per cent of employers complaining about shortage of talent, ahead of Brazil with 71 per cent, Bulgaria with 51 per cent. About fifty per cent of the employers are facing difficulties in filling positions in Australia, making the country feature on the fourth position followed by India and New Zealand together at sixth position with 48 per cent.
"Owing to high growth in the IT sector and increase in the social media presence of organisations, there has been a surge in the demand for IT staff and marketing/communications staff," ManpowerGroup India Managing Director, Mr Sanjay Pandit said.
