200,000 old fossils found in Construction site in Carlsbad

A lot of Ice Age fossils have been found at a site in San Diego County. Construction was going on when the fossils of bison, bones of mammoths, turtles and horses were found. The construction work has now been put on hold and paleontologists are working at the site.

Paleontologists are working with the members of the property developer, Cornerstone Communities. Fossils have been shifted to San Diego Museum of Natural History and detailed research on them will be carried out.

"The fossils have the potential to inform us an incredible deal concerning the local weather, the surroundings, the ecology of that point once they have been dwelling. We can understand how climates can change by studying these ancient ecosystems", said the researchers.

A skull and partial skull has been found, but exact species is yet to be found. But as per the researchers, it could be an antique bison or a Bison latifrons. The workers will be instructed to carefully carry out the work, as the possible fossil traces can be found.

It is the construction site in Carlsbad where 200,000 old fossils have been found. It is the place, where around 600 homes have to be built. This is not the first time when fossils have been found in California. Three years back, another bison fossil was unearthed in San Diego County at a Caltrans construction site.
