1984 riot cases: Sajjan Kumar gets anticipatory bail
Congress leader Sajjan Kumar got bail on Friday, from the Delhi High Court, in the two cases registered against him in connection with the 1984 anti Sikh riots.
His personal security officer (PSO) was suspended, on Thursday, by the Delhi Police when he reported that Sajjan Kumar was "missing" at least for two days.
Fresh non-bailable warrants were issued on February 23, by the Karkardooma Court against Kumar. The court also pulled up Central Bureau of Investigation for their failure to arrest Kumar and others accused in the case.
In this case Lokesh Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, did not accept CBI's plea of absconding of Sajjan Kumar when CBI told the court that they raided Kumar's residence four times, after the issue of warrants on February 17, but failed to arrest him. CBI could arrest only one out of 12 of the others accused.
Fresh non-bailable warrant against Kumar and 11 other accused have been issued for March 10.
On January 13, the CBI charge-sheeted Kumar and others, in the two cases, accusing them of making provocative speeches which lead to the killing of 12 persons in the riots following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
