1/10th of Singapore suffering from obesityWhile the number of obese percentage in Singapore was at a satisfactory level of 6.9% back in the survey done in 2004 but the latest National Health Survey has revealed that close to 10.8% of the population in the country is obese.

In other words, one in 10 Singaporeans are suffering from obesity. According to the Health Promotion Board (HPB), a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet are the sole reasons for causing the same. It is to be mentioned here that the survey which is done after a period of every six years covered close to 4,300 Singaporeans in the 18 to 69 age group. Experts are of a view that as more and more people have now settled in sedentary occupations, it is now leading to causing more obesity in the region.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Manpower statistics, the economy has seen close to 10% rise in the number of professionals, managers, executives and technicians between the period of 1999 and 2009. While the number of people is rising but the fact of the matter is close to 54.1% of Singaporeans do not engage in any kind of exercise that lasts for more than 20 minutes.
