After launching its micro blogging application in Spanish and Portuguese, the internet giant Yahoo Inc has come up with Yahoo Meme in English, in a bid to strengthen its presence in the highly competitive social networking segment. Meme is said to be a direct challenge to the existing micro blogging service providers such as Tumblr, Twitter, Pownce and others.

The company had earlier also launched social networking tools - such as India-specific SpotM and 'Know Your Mojo' - but, unfortunately, those were taken lightly by the people, and subsequently closed down.

Just like Twitter and Facebook, Meme, currently available in an invite-only mode, offers Username URLs like http://meme.yahoo.com/Username. It supports facilities such as micro-sharing text, images, music, videos or mash up after creating account for blogging.

Meme supports a setting panel that features Meme title, 100 character Description, avatar/photo and notifications. Users can post and share text, photos, videos and search for friends just like Twitter and Tumblr. Uses can create threads for comments under every Meme posts.

However, the micro blog still lacks of many features - such as, it has very few customizing tools for chiseling the themes with favorite background images or text style.
