Yahoo fires CEO Carol Bartz over phoneLondon, Sept 7 : The chief executive of Internet services company Yahoo, Carol Bartz, has reportedly been fired by the company's board over the phone.

The board named Chief Financial Officer Tim Morse to be interim CEO while it searches for a replacement for Bartz, the Telegraph reports.

Bartz said in a memo to employees that she was fired by Yahoo''s Chairman of the Board over the phone, the paper said.

"I am very sad to tell you that I''ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo''s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward," she said in an email.

According to the report, her ouster is likely to end a rocky two-year run marked by stagnating growth and a bitter rift with Chinese partner Alibaba.

Roy Bostock, chairman of the Yahoo! Board, said he would like to thank Carol for her service to the company, on behalf of the entire Board.

"On behalf of the entire Board, I want to thank Carol for her service to Yahoo! during a critical time of transition in the Company''s history, and against a very challenging macro-economic backdrop," Bostock said.

"I would also like to express the Board''s appreciation to Tim and thank him for accepting this important role. We have great confidence in his abilities and in those of the other executives who have been named to the Executive Leadership Council," he added. (ANI)
