WTO to consider Brazil-US orange juice dispute

WTO to consider Brazil-US orange juice dispute Geneva - The World Trade Organization established Friday a panel to judge a dispute brought by Brazil against the United States over orange juice imports.

Brazil's complaint is similar to others brought against the United States by various countries on different products, and pertains to Washington's method of calculating anti-dumping margins.

The complaints say the US method is unfair and places a heavy burden on exports, not in keeping with WTO agreements.

WTO panels have previously ruled against the method.

In the latest case brought by Brazil and supported by other WTO members, the US is accused of using the method against some orange juice imports.

The US said it was disappointed that Brazil had chosen to bring the complaint to the dispute settlements body of the WTO, and said it would challenge the complaint. (dpa)
