Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said internal matters of Pakistan do affect India, but "we are giving too much time and importance to Pakistan in our minds."

"To my mind, Pakistan deserves not half the importance we are giving it," he said at a press conference in Shimla.

Rahul is on a one-day trip to Himachal Pradesh to impress upon youth and energies party cadres in the state.

Rahul said he had a fundamentally different view on Pakistan. "There is no comparison between India and Pakistan, " he said.

Pakistan is a small piece of land. Certain issues related to Pak have to be managed, which is already being done, he added.

The Congress leader said the world view on Pakistan had changed in the past some years. "It's a long process. India has created a pressure and entire world is creating pressure on Pakistan," he said. He patted UPA for the work done by it in terms of positioning India at world level.

Rahul said the doors of political parties, whether it's "our party, BJP or any other party, are not as open to youngsters as they should be." "My effort is just to do that," he said.

Rahul took a dig at BJP and said the party has a 1000 years old ideology. He said BJP talks about Jinnah, which is a history. "I can not think about this for even five seconds," said Rahul.

He said the opposition parties were living in the past. The youth wants to know what we are going to give them in the years to come.

The Congress general secretary said two "Indias" were existing in the country, which need a link up.

"One India is of the people who have all the opportunities. The other India is of the people who do not have any opportunity."

He said the policies of UPA were aimed at taking along the people who do not have opportunities or identity.

"But the opponent parties are not conceptualising this. They talk of India Shining. How can you ever do that? There are people living in villages deep inside Uttar Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, who do not have any identity," Rahul said.

The Congress general secretary said his main job was to bring more democracy in the frontal organizations of Congress, the youth congress and NSUI.

"My effort is to have all elected people in the two organisations ultimately. No nominations in future. But it will take some time, but the process is on and we have already done it in four states for youth congress," he said.

"People who come through election process in the organisation and who make a mark will be given tickets."

Rahul later addressed Congress members at the party's office and asked them to put up a united face and give full time and attention to listen to the problems of people.

He was scheduled to interact with students at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla campus, and then fly to Dharamsala for another informal chat with students in lower region of the state.
