Warner may miss India Test tour after suspected thumb injury

David-Warner_Sydney, Jan 30 : In a setback to the Australian cricket team, David Warner may miss out a slot in the Test squad to India after sustaining a blow to his thumb from a Mitchell Johnson snorter while training.

3Warner, who seemed to be in pain after the blow, was immediately sent for medical attention to determine the extent of his injury, The Age reports.

Australia’s selection committee would be forced to make changes in the team, and drop Warner if he has suffered any serious damage to his finger, the paper added.

Warner’s likely lay-off puts his place in doubt for both the upcoming series against West Indies and the four-Test tour of India.

However, the incident may be a piece of good luck for all-rounder Shane Watson to slot back into his favoured opening position.

Warner’s injury could also prove to be good news for Ed Cowan, whose spot at the top of the order had come under question in recent times following his lean run with the bat and Watson’s desire to return as an opener.

Warner, one of the most explosive hitters in world cricket, has averaged 44.5 from 15 Tests, 30.37 from 38 ODIs and 28.71 from 44 T20Is. (ANI)
