Warne disappointed with ‘harsh’ penalties imposed over on-field brawl with Samuels

Warne disappointed with ‘harsh’ penalties imposed over on-field brawl with SamuelsSydney, Jan 7 : Melbourne Stars captain Shane Warne has said he is disappointed with the harsh penalties he received for his ugly on-field clash with Melbourne Renegades all rounder Marlon Samuels during a Big Bash League match at the MCG on Sunday.

Warne has been suspended for one match and fined 4500 dollars for his brawl with Samuels, News. com. au reports.

Warne faced a Cricket Australia (CA) hearing on Monday where he fronted four serious charges from the fiery BBL clash with the Melbourne Renegades.

Warne said he was disappointed after being handed the one-match ban, and he then made a brief statement before refusing to answer questions from the waiting media people.

The legendary leg spinner said he was disappointed with his actions during heated encounter, but also added that he was also thwarted with the harshness of penalties.

However, after consulting with his team, Warne later tweeted that he would accept the ban. Samuels is recovering in the team hotel after copping a knock under his right eye after top-edging a Lasith Malinga bouncer into his head while attempting a hook shot.

Warne''s Melbourne Stars lost to the cross-town Renegades, but the result of the match has paled into the footnotes today.

Warne made threatening remarks and gestures towards Samuels during the Renegades'' innings, apparently in response to the West Indian''s actions earlier while bowling when he held back Stars batsman David Hussey from a potential second run.

As soon as Samuels came to the crease in the ninth over of the run chase, Warne angrily yelled and gesticulated at him, saying "F--- you, Marlon" as umpires intervened.

The next over, Warne raced in to cut off a single and threw the ball into Samuels upper body, prompting an explosion of rage from Samuels, who hurled his bat down the pitch past Warne as players and umpires rushed in to diffuse the potentially explosive situation.

Later in the same over, Warne gestured angrily at the square-leg umpire when he ruled a wide from Clint McKay''s bowling. (ANI)
