Virgin Media’s 4G services might be launched this year

Virgin Media’s 4G services might be launched this yearAccording to a new The INQUIRER report, Internet Service Provider (ISP) Virgin Media has revealed that it may likely roll out its high-speed 4G services - using Everything Everywhere's LTE approved 1800MHz spectrum - in UK this year; even though there have been reports of the 4G launch having been delayed in the country.

As per the details shared by an unnamed Virgin Media spokesperson told The INQUIRER, with the Everything Everywhere network already been used by Virgin Media for its mobile services, talks were currently underway with Everything Everywhere - an Orange and T-Mobile joint venture - about the use of the company's Long Term Evolution (LTE) spectrum for launching ISP's 4G services.

The revelation by the Virgin Media spokesperson came close on the heels of the regulatory approval which Everything Everywhere's new EE brand has received for the early launch of 4G, on smartphones like the newly-released Apple iPhone 5.

Despite rumors about the likelihood of a delay in the 4G LTE rollout in the UK because EE's rival providers - O2, Vodafone and 3 - still await a Government auction for purchasing the radio spectrum space required for running 4G services, the Virgin Media spokesperson said that the launch of 4G services this year "promises to bring significant benefits to UK consumers as people begin to make the most of forthcoming superfast mobile connections."
