US Energy Department issues energy funding

HP-logoThe United States Department of Energy, in its efforts to expedite energy saving measures in corporations, has announced a $115 million grant for companies including Yahoo! Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company and I. B. M. T. J. Watson Research Center.

The total funding of more than $115 million for energy efficiency would be funded by the department and private industry for $47 million and $70 million respectively. Energy secretary- Steven Chu said, "The expected growth of these industries means that new technologies adopted today will yield benefits for many years to come."

Yahoo! would be the recipient of the biggest chunk of the funding at $9.9 million. SeaMicro Inc. and Hewlett-Packard would get $9.3 million and $7.4 million respectively.

Power Assure Inc., Edison Materials Technology Center and Columbia University would get $5 million and $2.8 million each respectively. Other recipients include Lineage Power Corporation, Alcatel-Lucent and I. B. M. T. J. Watson Research Center which would get $2.4 million, $1.8 million and $1.6 million respectively.

The funds are aimed to use for servers, networking devices and software besides mitigating power losses and heat dissipation in IT communication systems, clearly, to cut emission and improving energy efficiency.
