Top Tata man named Essar Steel executive vice chairman

Firdose-VandrevalaMumbai, August 7 :  Essar Steel Wednesday said it has appointed as executive vice chairman Firdose A. Vandrevala, who was associated with Tata Group for more than three decades in various senior positions.

Vandrevala joins Essar Steel from HIRCO, a construction and real estate major, where he was chairman and managing director. His appointment will be effective from Aug 12.

"We are delighted to have Firdose join us. Essar Steel is committed to be a leader in the economic development of this nation. We look forward to Firdose's contribution in making India self-sufficient in the steel sector and contribute further to the country's progress," Essar group chairman Shashi Ruia said in a statement.

Vandrevala was in the Tata Group for over three decades, where he held various leadership positions, the last being the managing director of Tata Power and chairman of Tata Teleservices.

He was the deputy managing director of Tata Steel before moving to Tata Power. From Tata Group, he had joined Motorola India as chairman.

About his new appointment, Vandrevala said: "Essar Steel has set up some of the finest facilities and its scale and size is something any professional will want to associate with.

"As the expanded capacity of 10 million tonnes comes online, I am looking forward to Essar Steel playing a leading role in this sector and contributing to India's economic development and growth," he said. (IANS)
