Victories for Russia and Czech Republic in World Cup qualifiers
Hamburg - Two own goals helped Russia to a 3-0 victory over Finland in a World Cup qualifier Wednesday while the Czech Republic got its first win of the campaign against Slovenia.
Petri Pasanen and Veli Lampi were the unfortunate players to put into their own net for Finland while Andrei Arshavin scored the third for Guus Hiddink's Russia side late on.
Russia now sit second in Group 4, one point behind Germany who play Wales later Wednesday.
Libor Sionko was the hero for the Czechs, scoring a second-half goal to ensure a 1-0 win at home to Slovenia in Group 3, a victory that moves Petr Rada's side on to four points, three behind Slovenia and Poland.
In Group 2, Israel played out a 1-1 draw away to Latvia, who salvaged a point thanks to Vladimirs Kolesnichenko's late equalizer, while Lithuania moved top of Group 7 on nine points after a 1-0 victory against the Faroe Islands.
Bulgaria registered a third draw in succession in Group 8 after the game against Georgia finished scoreless. (dpa)
