Late Bochum goals leave Bayern stunned; Hoffenheim go top

Hamburg - Bochum stunned champions Bayern Munich with two late goals to snatch a 3-3 draw while promoted Hoffenheim again went to the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Hoffenheim secured a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt to move to 13 points, level with VfB Stuttgart who downed Werder Bremen 4-1 and SV Hamburg, who visit Energie Cottbus on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Hertha Berlin snatched a late 1-0 at Bayer Leverkusen.

After a 5-2 home defeat to Bremen and a 1-0 loss at Hanover last weekend, Bayern badly needed a win at home against lowly Bochum.

Wolfsburg and Tottenham go through to the UEFA Cup group phase

Hamburg  - German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday advanced to the group phase of the UEFA Cup.

Wolfsburg were held to a 1-1 draw at Rapid Bucharest to advance 2- 1 on aggregate, while Tottenham also drew 1-1 at Wisla Krakow and advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

Wolfsburg had the ideal start in Romania taking the lead in the 15th minute through Grafite, giving the home side a tough task of having to score three goals to go through.

Barcelona leave it late as Inter and Chelsea draw

Hamburg - Lionel Messi scored two late goals to help Barcelona beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in the Champions League Wednesday while Inter Milan and Chelsea were both held to draws.

Ilsinho looked like he was going to be the hero for the Ukrainian side when he held off Carles Puyol before slotting the ball past Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes to put Shakhtar in front.

But with time running out, Messi tapped in an equalizer after an error from Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Piyatov before netting the winner in added time.

Big names face big UEFA tests

Hamburg  - Premier League clubs Tottenham and Everton face tough fights to keep their UEFA Cup hopes alive while former European champions Borussia Dortmund are in a perilous position in second leg matches of the first round on Thursday.

Of England's five-team contingent looking for a place in the 40-team group stage, Everton face the most difficult task as they travel to Belgium's Standard Liege level at 2-2 after the first leg at Goodison.

Arsenal put a disappointing 2-1 Premier League defeat against Hull behind them in a 4-0 trouncing of former Champions League winners Porto in a Group G game, while holders Manchester United won 3-0 at Aalborg BK.
