Mirza-Hingis' 41-match winning streak ends at Qatar Open

Doha, Feb. 26 : Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis's incredible 41-match winning streak came to a sudden halt as they suffered a shocking defeat in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Total Open here on Friday.

The Indo-Swiss pair were beaten at the hands of Russian pair of Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 4-6, 5-10 in the quarter-final clash that lasted for one hour and 17 minutes.

Reflecting on her defeat, Mirza wrote on Twitter, "So that's how the cookie crumbled ... just kiddin. Hehe.. We'll be back stronger than before #SanTina."

Asian Indoor Athletics: Mayookha Johny wins long jump gold; Dutee Chand settles

Doha: Long jumper Mayookha Johny fetched India a gold medal while sprinter Dutee Chand settled for a bronze after shattering national record in 60m dash in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships here.

Mayookha controlled the long jump competition from the very outset and finished on top of the podium with a leap of 6.35m, an effort that propelled her to India's first Asian indoor title in the event.

Bui Thi Thu Thao of Vietnam took the silver with a 6.30m jump while Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan finished third with an effort of
6.22m.
