Spanish-Italian duels continue in Europa League group stage

Spanish-Italian duels continue in Europa League group stage Monaco - Lazio will face Villareal, while Valencia come up against Genoa in Italian-Spanish duels in the draw for the group stage of football's Europa League made in Monaco on Friday.

It follows the Champions League draw on Thursday which also threw up Spanish-Italian pairings, with Barcelona drawn in a group with Inter Milan while Real Madrid facing AC Milan.

The Europa League group stage will also feature two German-Austrian meetings, with Werder Bremen, last season's losing UEFA Cup finalists in a group with Austria Vienna as well as Athletic Bilbao and Portuguese side Nacional.

Fellow Bundesliga side SV Hamburg will also be in Vienna against city rivals Rapid, with Scotland's Celtic and Hapoel Tel Aviv also in their group.

UEFA Cup holders Shakhtar Donetsk must play Club Brugge, Partizan Belgrade and Toulouse.

Valencia and Genoa will have Lille and Slavia Prague to contend with in their group, while Villareal and Lazio must overcome Levski Sofia and Salzburg.

England's Everton face Benfica, AEK Athens and BATE Borisov, while fellow Premier League side Fulham are in a group with AS Roma, FC Basel and CSKA Sofia.

A Greek-Turkish meeting will come when Panathinaikos face off with Galatasaray in a group also featuring Dinamo Bucharest and Sturm Graz.

Dutch giants Ajax face neighbouring Belgian side Anderlecht along with Dinamo Bucharest and Romanian outfit Timisoara. (dpa)
