Sonia Gandhi meets party leaders to access poll performanceCongress president Sonia Gandhi has held a meeting with the senior party members to discuss the poor performance of the partying assembly elections in five states.

All general secretaries of the Indian national congress, including Rahul Gandhi gathered to for the meeting at Congress president's residence in the national capital. Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, in-charge of UP; Chaudhary Birendra Singh, incharge of Uttarakhand; Gulchain Singh Charak, in-charge of Punjab; Jagmeet Singh Brar, in-charge of Goa; and Luizinho Faleiro, in-charge of Manipur were present for the meeting.

In the meeting the leaders discussed Congress' performance in the elections, especially in the politically important and home state of Uttar Pradesh.

Congress could manage to win only 28 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The defeat is being perceived as a defeat for Rahul Gandhi, who has been extensively campaigning in the state in the last few months. Congress also faced defeat in Punjab and Goa.

In Uttarakhand the party managed to edge past BJP by just one seat with 32 wins. Manipur was a face-saver for the party, where it won the state elections for the third term.
