Several soft drinks contain traces of alcohol, research

Several soft drinks contain traces of alcohol, researchAccording to a new research in France, more than half of the leading soft drinks including the likes of Coke and Pepsi contain traces of alcohol.

Paris-based National Institute of Consumption (INC) conducted tests on the drinks and found that more than half of leading soft drinks available worldwide contain traces of alcohol. The tests showed that the alcohol content is tiny in the drinks at the rate of 10mg in every litre, which translates to 0.001% alcohol.

The researchers conducted tests on 19 drinks and found that nine of them did not contain alcohol. The alcohol free drinks were manufactured by brands including Auchan, Cora, Casino, Leader Price and Man U-Cola.

The ten drinks that contained alcohol traces include Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola Classic Light and Coke Zero. Michel Pepin, scientific director for Coca-Cola France, said, "It is possible that traces of alcohol come from the process" of making Coca Cola according to its secret recipe.

He pointed out that the Coca-Cola drinks were soft drinks and were recognized as such by the governments and authorities in the countries where it is sold. A spokesman for Pepsi said that soft drinks might contain alcohol because of the ingredients used but pointed out that the recipe does not include alcohol.
