Seven-year-old girl with terminal cancer dies after returning from MexicoOlivia Downie, the seven year old girl who sort treatment for a terminal cancer in Mexico, has died after returning home to Scotland. Her family said, ""It is with great sadness that we announce that our darling daughter Olivia slipped away peacefully this morning after her long and courageous battle. We are so thankful that, thanks to the generosity of so many people, we have been able to take her home to Scotland so she could have her family by her side. Words cannot express how grateful we are that this final journey was made possible."

Olivia and her family from Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire, had travelled to Mexico to get treatment for neuroblastoma, with which she was diagnosed three years ago. She returned back to Aberdeen on Wednesday.

She was seriously ill in the cental ameriva country and was tld that she would need expensive medical treatment on the flight back home. The charity Families Against Neuroblastoma (Fan) stepped in to help the family raise funds. The charity helped raise more than £150,000 for the family.

A fund raising drive, helped her parents, Lauren and Steven reach Aberdeen on a medical plane on Wednesday. Olivia was then taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Olivia was diagnosed in January 2009 after suffering severe backache and tiredness. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma after she was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital following visits to the GPs.

The family has extended gratitude to the medical and nursing teams at the NHS Grampian as well as abroad.
