Samsung to focus on CDMA-based phone modelsLeading electronic equipment manufacturer Samsung India has been eying the Open Market Handset segment by introducing more CDMA based mobile handset in the market.

Open Market Handsets (OMHs) are available through retailers while other CDMA based phones are available only through telecom service providers. CDMA enabled phones are continuously becoming popular in India and their growth may further pick-up in future with the entry of new telecom players in the market.

Hoping OMH market to reach 30 per cent in 2010, Samsung India Electronics Vice-President-HHP Division Hendrick Lee said, "Currently we have seven CDMA phones. With the launch of these phones it would reach nine by January 2010. We want to take it by 15 by end of 2010."

Samsung India Electronics (SIE), having market share of 24.5 per cent, has signed deals with some telecom players for providing CDMA handsets and introduced CDMA models based on their needs. But people are showing great deal of interest in OMH models, raising the prospectus of growth across the segment.

The firm has also launched the new CDMA mobile ‘Corby Speed’ in the market today and announced to strengthen its sales network.
