Russian president pays state visit to Switzerland

Russian president pays state visit to Switzerland Geneva - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev started Monday a two day official state trip to Switzerland - the first time a head of state from Moscow has visited Bern.

Trade and energy are believed to be high on the agenda, as Medvedev meets with various Swiss ministers, along with human rights and humanitarian law. Also, the trip will have a focus on European security policy and tax and business issues.

Switzerland exports to Russia about 3 billion francs (2.8 billion dollars) of goods while imports to the Alpine state are worth about a third of that figure.

The second day of Medvedev's trip will include a tour to the central part of the country. He is not expected to visit Geneva, where Russian and United States teams have been negotiating on nuclear disarmament. (dpa)
