Curfew relaxation brings respite to people in Srinagar

Kashmir tense during memorial for slain separatist leader Srinagar, Aug 28 : People in Srinagar got some respite on Thursday following a relaxation in curfew which provided them with an opportunity to venture outside their homes and stock up on essential commodities.

A one-and-half-hour relaxation in curfew around noon brought relief to people in the city who are forced to stay indoors.

Curfew was imposed in all the ten districts of the Valley on Sunday morning to thwart the proposed march of the separatists to Lal Chowk on Monday.

Chennai could get world's largest stadium

With the aim to have more seating capacity even more than Eden Gardens and Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), is planning to construct a stadium in Chennai for the World Cup of 2011, which is to be co-hosted by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The stadium is being built on a 50-acre site in Karunkuzhipallam village in Kanchipuram district which is 25 kilometers outside Chennai. This advanced stadium will also have retractable roof to prevent wash outs. However, the contractor has yet to be found by TNCA.

The Samiti spokesperson said Convenor Leela Karan Sharma has received invitation from the panel, headed by Advisor to J-K Governor S S Bloeria, for fourth round of talks to be held at a Guest House here at 4:30 p. m.

ICAI to hold workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards

New Delhi, Aug 28 : The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will organise a two-day workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) at Baroda in Gujarat from tomorrow.

The workshop is intended to give an overview of application of IFRS in Indian scenario.

It will focus more on concepts that are relatively new under Indian GAAP and on topics which by and large potentially impact the net worth and profit or loss under more common situations.

Nationally renowned experts having in-depth knowledge, experience and expertise about the IFRS will address the workshop.

PM to undertake an aerial survey of flood-hit Bihar today

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghPatna, Aug 28 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will today undertake an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Bihar.

After a day-long aerial survey, Dr. Singh is scheduled to review the relief and rescue measures launched by the State Government at a high-level meeting with senior officials.

Ahead of his visit, State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met the PM on Wednesday in New Delhi and sought central assistance of Rs 1000 crore and one lakh tones of foodgrains immediately for the affected people.
