Products made by Baba Ramdev’s trust fail test

Baba-RamdevThe food safety investigators have found that some of the products sold by the trust headed by famed Indian yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, were not adequate as per the set standards.

Officials of the Food Safety and Standards Department had collected samples from of six food products during a surprise raid at his Kankhal-based unit in august this year. The samples were sent to testing facilities in Rudrapur and the tests revealed that the products had failed the tests.

The finding of the investigations was released to the public on Tuesday. Baba Ramdev reacted by saying that the findings are ‘misleading’ and ‘politically motivated’. He also claimed that the State and Central investigating agencies are trying to spoil his name and threatened to take legal action against the agencies.

District food safety officer RS Rawat clarified that the quality of the products involved is not in question. He assured that the products are of adequate quality standard but only said that some products are manufactured elsewhere but their marketing was done at the unit. Misbranded products include Patanjali salt, Patanjali mustard oil, Patanjali lychee honey, Patanjali gram flour and Patanjali pine-apple jam.

“Many products are manufactured elsewhere and their marketing is done here. Like the Patanjali salt is procured from Kutch in Gujarat and mustard oil from Rajasthan and both are sold as Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd products,” Rawat said.

Baba Ramdev could face a fine of upto Rs 90 lakh for misbranding six products.
