Popular photo-sharing app Instagram expanding to the web

Popular photo-sharing app Instagram expanding to the webIn an earlier this week blog post, the Facebook-owned widely-popular photo-sharing app Instagram revealed its plans to expand to the web, by introducing new profiles over the web in the next few days.

Instagram - which was originally designed for mobile handsets - said in the announcement that the new web profiles feature will give its over 100 million users a profile picture, bio, as well as a selection of their latest snap shots.

According to Instagram, the upcoming roll out of the new web profiles feature will essentially enable the users of the photo-sharing app to view their own photos, and also those of the other users, in a format which bears a striking resemblance to Facebook Timeline with a bit of Pinterest.

In addition to the familiar Facebook theme, the Instagram web profiles will unfold for the users big cover banners which will chiefly be an anthology of their earlier Instagram photos. The profile picture of the users will be on the right side of the website, and a feed of their snapshots will run down the page.

Noting that the forthcoming unveiling of Instagram web profiles shows that Instagram has "listened" to the users' requests for "Instagram on the web," the company said in its blog post: "Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram."
