PM, Ramesh assured me of speedy clearance to Posco-Says Naveen

PM, Ramesh assured me of speedy clearance to Posco-Says NaveenWhen asked about the progress of the Posco steel plant, Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Orissa, was very confident as he declared that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well as Jairam Ramesh, the Environment Minister have guaranteed to facilitate speedy clearance for the Posco venture worth Rs 54,000 in the state.

But when the same was asked about the other multi-billion venture spearheaded by Vedanta Group, the Minister had no concrete answer. This group which has proposed to set up a mining project in the state has already been alleged of going against the forest and tribal laws in the state's Niyamgiri hills.

The Posco project is considered to be the nation's single largest package of Foreign Direct Investment.

According to Naveen's report this project, which has been lying with no progress due to the want of the green signal from the Environment Ministry of the country, will see progress in very near future as a team of the Ministry of Forest has been appointed to review the site of the Posco project and verify its compliance with the Forest Conservation Act and the Forest Rights Act.
