PM Manmohan Singh to meet PSUs’ chiefs todayAutonomy of public sector units and their disinvestment plans will be discussed in the meeting between the chiefs of the PSUs and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.

Heavy industry minister Praful Patel said that several PSUs have the capacity to become international players but over-regulation hinders their way.

Mr. Patel also said that some PSUs often complaint that their voice was not heard in the matter of divesting their stakes. The minister added that PSU chiefs' views on disinvestment needed to be heard.

Speaking on the topic, he added, "Policy making will remain the domain of the government but we need to hear the ideas of PSU bosses. I have facilitated in providing them a platform to share their views."

The meeting, organized by Mr. Patel, will be attended by 25 chiefs of PSUs, most of which are called Maharatnas and Navratnas. The list of PSU chiefs who will attend the meeting includes chiefs of Coal India Ltd, Air India, Bharat Heavy Electricals, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation, and Steel authority of India.

The government has a target to raise Rs 30,000 crore through disinvestment during the current fiscal. But, no disinvestment could be carried out so far this year.
