Islamabad, Oct 7: Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has reportedly prolonged his stay in Saudi Arabia by two days, for his a key role of a mediator in conjunction with Saudi Arabia in bringing about a negotiated settlement between the Taliban and the Karzai regime to pave the way for withdrawal of the US and NATO forces from Afghanistan.

Sources believed that the Saudi initiative in which Nawaz Sharif had his own role had the “backing of Washington and London”.

Bhakkar (Pakistan), Oct 7 : At least 25 people were killed and 60 injured in a powerful suicide blast at the house of an MNA (member of national assembly) belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), here last evening.

The suicide bomber blew himself up right in front of MNA Rashid Akbar Niwani’s house in Bhakkar at a time when a large group of people had gathered there to meet the leader. The incident was confirmed as a suicide bomb as the bomber’s head was recovered from the site.

London, Sep 13 : Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party Pakistan Muslim League (N), which is the main opposition party and has a large popular following, could make it hard for Islamabad to maintain its American alliance after a missile from an US drone killed 12 people in Pakistani tribal areas, fuelling angry protests and threats of withdrawal from “War on Terror”.

“We need at this time to make it clear to foreign countries that Pakistan will not tolerate such actions,” said Ahsan Iqbal, spokesman of PML-N.

Islamabad, Sep 9: Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief Nawz Sharif has told new President Asif Ali Zardari in a lighter vein that “because of your election as president, you have become too serious, not smiling and speaking very little.”

Leading a high-level delegation of his party, the PML-N chief met Zardari on Monday to congratulate him on his election as president of Pakistan.

According to a participant at the meeting, Zardari responded: “No, I am normal.”
