Mamata Banerjee to attend UPA co-ordination committee meeting Trinamool Congress chief Mamta Banerjee has arrived in Delhi to the UPA co-ordination committee meeting for the first time on Wednesday. Trinamool Congress - the second biggest ally of the coalition government - had not attended the committee's first meeting on August 8.

Apart from Mamta, Trinamool Congress leader and railway minister Mukul Roy will also attend the meeting.

Mukul Roy joins union cabinet as railway ministerMukul Roy from Trinamool Congress has joined the country’s union cabinet as the railway minister after the resignation of his party colleague Dinesh Trivedi.

Roy was sworn in as India's new railway minister on Tuesday following the resignation of Trivedi over his reluctance to roll back in price hikes he introduced as part of the rail budget for the year. Trivedi stepped down on Sunday after the Trinamool Congress expressed its opposition to his decision to raise passenger fares.
