Egypt court postpones Morsi's trial

Mohamed-MorsiCairo, March 6 : The Cairo Criminal Court Thursday suspended the trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi over charges of inciting the killing of protestors, media reported.

The defence also demanded that the court dissolve the judges' panel, saying the current panel was biased, Xinhua reported citing Nile TV.

Morsi's trials over espionage and jailbreak were also suspended for the same reason.

Mohamed-MorsiCairo, Jan 2 : Egypt's ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi will go on trial Jan 28 over charges of a 2011 prison break, media reported Thursday.

Morsi will stand trial along with more than 130 other Muslim Brotherhood members, members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, and Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah for storming the Wady al-Natroun prison.

They will be tried for kidnapping, and killing police officers during the 2011 uprising that toppled his predecessor Honsi Mubarak, Xinhua reported.

Morsi jailed for insulting judiciary

Mohamed-MorsiCairo, Sep 7 : An Egyptian court has jailed ousted president Mohamed Morsi for four days pending investigations over insulting the judiciary, state-run Ahram website reported Saturday.

Morsi, in a televised interview, accused 22 judges of fraud during the 2005 parliamentary elections, Xinhua reported.

He is also accused of attempting to influence the trial of Ahmed Shafiq, his rival in the presidential elections.

Morsi is now serving a renewed 15-day term pending investigations over charges of spying and breaking out of prison during the 2011 turmoil which toppled president Hosni Mubarak.

John Kerry in Egypt for talksCairo, March 3 - US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Egypt Saturday on a two-day visit for talks with the Eyptian President Mohamed Morsi, Xinhua reported.

This is Kerry's first foreign trip as Washington's top diplomat.

Kerry, who planned to visit a number of Arab and European states, is scheduled to hold talks with Morsi Sunday on the bilateral relations, Egypt's economic recession and the regional issues of common concern including the Syrian crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian issue. (IANS)

The White House said in a statement that Obama, during a meeting with the Egyptian President, encouraged him, and all political groups within Egypt, to work to build consensus and advance the political transition, reports Politico.

During the four-hour long Egyptian national dialogue, Morsi said "I am ready to communicate personally with the leaders and members of the NSF and reinvite them to a dialogue," according to the report.

In a TV address to the nation, Morsi said the economy was a priority and that changes to the cabinet would be made if necessary.

He gave great emphasis on the new constitution that have been freely chosen by the Egyptian people, not imposed from above, the BBC reports.

He assured Egyptians, now the constitution was in place, the country would be more stable and secure.
