CBSE set to start grading system, scrapping Class X Boards

HRD Minister Kapil SibalAll schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are all set to introduce the proposed grading system from 2010, under educational reforms initiated by Human Resource Development Ministry. The board today dispersed a circular to all concerned schools, stating the introduction of grading system and the scrapping of Class X board exam.

Mr. Sibal, addressing a two-day annual conference of Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), said that there should be uniformity in the course content for mathematics and science for making students capable to compete any competitive exam both for job and admission seeking.

Speaking at the Convocation of IIT-Delhi, Sibal said despite growth in number of technical institutions, there had not been proportionate increase in quality graduates in the country.

"The key missing link in this growth is the availability of quality faculty," Sibal said.

Inaugurating the conference of State Education Secretaries and Project Directors being held to review matters related to school education and literacy here today, Sibal said that while the mid-day scheme has been seen, through studies, to improve enrolment of children in school substantially, a rationalization of its parameters is now required.

In interviews published in three Hindi newspapers, Gupta is quoted to have stated that Sibal "has fought cases on behalf of school managements and has exploited parents and guardians and that he has a two-faced character."
