Mathews still in 'shock' over Kiwis snatching victory from jaws of defeat in Basin Test

Angelo MathewsWellington, Jan 07 : Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews has expressed that he was shocked to see rival New Zealand team turning around the Basin Reserve Test to win by 193 runs and claim a whitewash in the two match Test series.

Mathews said that they were able to put New Zealand under pressure by the third day, but they missed a couple of sitters and good players make it count, adding that it was a shocking turnaround, Stuff. co. nz reported.

According to Mathews, the pair of Williamson and Watling put on a record partnership and were brilliant.

Sri Lanka's Mathews rises to 13th in ICC rankings

Angelo-MathewsDubai, Jan 6 : The latest ICC Test players' rankings have changed following the first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi.  The Test may have ended in a draw but there were a number of performers who were rewarded with jumps.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, who struck 91 and an unbeaten career-best 157, has moved up 16 places to a best-ever 13th spot in the ICC Test batsmen rankings while Kumar Sangakkara has slid a position to sixth, but remains the highest-ranked batsman from either side.

Sri Lanka's Mathews ruled out of ODI series

Angelo MathewsBhubaneshwar, Dec 19 : Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the ongoing five-match one-day series against India due to an injury.

Mathews strained his right quadricep muscle during his match winning knock of 37 not out in the second one-dayer at Nagpur, which Sri Lanka won by three wickets to level the series 1-1.

Sri Lankan team physio Tommy Simsek is predicting a grade two tear where the healing time is expected take up to four weeks.    

All -rounder Thissara Perera will join the squad in India as his replacement, the team website said Saturday.
