Oz injury woes continues after Starc withdrawn from ODI squad with calf soreness

Mitchell-JohnsonSydney, Jan 12 : Australia's miserable injury woes with fast bowlers continued after Mitchell Johnson was withdrawn from the one-day squad for the Sri Lanka series due to mild calf soreness.

Young South Australian quick Kane Richardson was on Saturday called up as cover for Sunday''s clash against Sri Lanka at the Adelaide Oval, with Starc pulling up lame after the 107-run series opening win at the MCG on Friday, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Starc took 1-25 off six overs in the big win, with his status for the remainder of the series uncertain. The Australians are already without a host of bowlers due to injury, including the likes of Ben Hilfenhaus and Pat Cummins, though both James Pattinson and Josh Hazelwood have returned to the bowling crease.

Cricket Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement Mitchell Starc had some mild right calf soreness after the match at the MCG on Friday.

Kountouris added that CA is not majorly concerned about it, and they we had withdrawn Starc from the game on Sunday as a precaution, adding he will be reassessed over the next few days and is a possibility to play next weekend''s matches against Sri Lanka if his symptoms resolve. (ANI)
