The company might be planning to revise its policy to allow independent developers to publish their games on the platform to expand their reach and developer base. The company said that self-publishing will also be opened up to Xbox 360 after allowing them to publish on the console.

According to some reports, Microsoft might be planning to allow game developers to self-publish their work on Xbox One. The company had earlier said that it would now allow developers to directly publish their work and they will have to tie up with a publisher to get their games on Xbox One. The software giant has already confirmed reports confirming the reports and said that it will announce more details at the Gamescom conference, to be held next month in Cologne, Germany.

Xbox executive Marc Whitten wrote, "Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE. We'll have more details on the program and the timeline at Gamescom in August."

Several game developers had expressed concerns over the way company manages the Xbox Live Arcade downloadable game service for the Xbox 360 including the need to tie up with a publisher for publishing a game.
