Micromax launches LED TVs in India

Micromax launches LED TVs in IndiaIndian affordable mobile phone maker, Micromax has entered the Television market with the launch of its new LED TV sets in the Indian market.

Micromax, which is the country's third largest handset maker, announced the launch of a range of LED televisions, home theatres, 3D Blu-Ray player and Android computer dongle. The launch comes just six months after the company launched its tablet computer in the country.

"From small screen to a big screen, we have been gearing up for it since more than a year. We want to be Maruti in our business," said Rajesh Agarwal, co-founder and MD of Micromax.

He said that LED televisions are expected to account for 65 per cent of the television market in India. This offers a huge opportunity for the company to expand and attract customers. He also said that the company wants to be become an aspiration brand offering products to the people who they were unable to purchase earlier due to high process.

All has not been well for the company since it made a grand entry into the mobile phone market in 2008. It saw initially success and quickly captured market share in the country but it has been a difficult year when it canceled its IPO plan, lost market share in dual-sim segment to rivals and delayed smartphone launch.
