Massa showing signs of recovery, says government spokesman

Massa showing signs of recovery, says government spokesmanBudapest  - Felipe Massa is awakening more and more often and can respond when spoken too, as well as move his arms and legs, a spokesman for the Hungarian Defence Ministry said on local television on Monday morning.

"This can be taken as a good sign," Istvan Bocskai said.

The spokesman said Massa had been subjected to a further CT scan in the morning.

"The CT scan revealed nothing that gave the doctors cause for worry," Bocskai said.

Bocskai noted that, although the signs were good that Massa could make a full recovery, it was still too early to make a final declaration on his condition.

Massa suffered a skull fracture in a freak accident on Saturday when a spring from fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello's Brawn GP car broke loose and struck him on the helmet during a Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying session at Hungaroring.

Massa crashed head on into a tyre barrier. He underwent emergency surgery on Sunday after being rushed by helicopter to Budapest's AEK army hospital.

Bocskai said the doctors and nurses were doing all they could, and that AEK is "one of Europe's most modern hospitals." (dpa)
