Maruti eyes 100 pct jump in exports in FY'10

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car maker, is expecting to double its exports in the current fiscal year. Also, Maruti India is seeing over 20 percent growth in its overall sales.

In the last fiscal year, the company exported 80,000 units while this year the company is expected to achieve 100 percent growth in exports. Recently, Maruti Suzuki India has started exporting its new model Ritz to South East Asia. At the same time, the company is expanding its export portfolio and looking out for some other markets also.

Maruti Suzuki India’s flagship model A-Star was the key factor for the company’s overseas sales growth. Within 11 months of its launch, Maruti sold over one lakh units of A-Star till December 2010. Maruti is also expected to cross two lakh units of A-Star’s exports by 2010-11.  

A-Star is produced only at Maruti’s Manesar manufacturing facility. Europe, Chile, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria and the UAE are the key markets where the A-Star is being sold under the name of Suzuki Celerio. Japanese car major Nissan is also the contract manufactures for A-Star and sells the car in the European market under the name of Pixo.  

Maruti Suzuki India is growing at about 20-22 percent in the current fiscal year and this growth is expected to be continuing for the entire fiscal.
