Kejriwal targets Delhi Govt. over hike in power and water tariff, announces indefinite fast

Arvind-Kejriwal1New Delhi, Mar 4 : Lashing out at the Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi Government for having nexus with power distributing companies, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that he would sit on a hunger strike against inflated power and water bills from March 23.

Kejriwal urged the residents of Delhi not to pay the inflated electricity bills.

"Looking at the inflated bills of electricity and water, it has become impossible for the people of Delhi to pay the electricity bills. People are unable to understand what do to. The slums are getting inflated bills worth rupees 40,000 and 20,000 rupees worth of water bills and the only reason of all this is corruption because the Sheila Dikshit Government has a nexus with electricity companies; the evidences of nexus have already been shown," Kejriwal told media here.

"Today, every man or family is standing up for their rights and they are fighting for justice. A person is not being able to pay his bills. So, in support of the people I will be sitting on an indefinite hunger strike, protesting against inflated power bills and for that I appeal to the people of Delhi not to pay even half the amount of electricity bills because only half of the bill is justified," he added.

Earlier also, Kejriwal had accused the Delhi Government of having nexus with power distributors in the state and accused Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of increasing electricity fare to benefit these companies, despite Delhi Electricity Board Regulatory Commission (DERC) recommendation to reduce it.
