Kamal Haasan Can’t Vote This Year!

Kamal HaasanAt the time when the country's people are making use of their voting rights, Tollywood superstar Kamal Hassan will not be able to vote this year at Corporation School near Nageswaran Rao Park in Mylapore, Chennai as his name is missing from the voters list!

Despite his busy shooting schedule, Kamal was planning to fly to Chennai only to cast his vote.

Nowadays, Kamal is in Hyderabad shooting for his upcoming flick 'Unnai Pol Oruvan'.

But when the actor came to know about the exclusion of his name from the list, he feels really sad and frustrated.

An angered Kamal told media over telephone from Hyderabad, "This is the first time I am being denied my right to vote. They wax eloquent that every farmer on the field, every cobbler on the street should vote, but see... I've been denied my voting right. I am losing more than Rs 10 lakh by being away from shooting. I was particular that I should vote this time."

He said he took up the case with officials, but to no avail.

Mr. Rajesh Lakhoni, corporation commissioner and district electoral officer, stated that the actor's name does not included in the electoral list as his house on the address given (on Luz Church Road) had been hired out as a godown.

As a result, when functionaries had come for address verification, Kamal was not there. That's why, he had to be announced as a non-resident of Chennai.

Kamal insists that he is very much a tax payer from the city.

"I pay my taxes from my Eldam's Road address. I pay my electricity bills from here. Everyone knows that. Why can't then I figure in the voters' list?" Kamal asked, adding that he had cast his vote in the last assembly elections at a corporation school near Nageswara Rao Park.

Mr. Lakhoni said the election functionaries were of no help in this situation when the person was not available for enumeration at the given residential address.
