Jewish community leader resigns after being caught shoplifting

Jewish community leader resigns after being caught shopliftingBudapest - The deputy leader of Hungary's largest Jewish organization has resigned his post after being caught, and charged with, shoplifting, it was confirmed on Thursday.

Pecs Municipal Court sentenced Istvan Krausz to a year's probation in August after finding him guilty of stealing a wallet at a petrol station.

Krausz was filmed by security cameras as he pocketed the wallet, containing the equivalent of 2,500 dollars, which another customer had left on the counter while fetching a few items from the store.

The president of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities, Peter Feldmajer, told the local news agency MTI that Krausz's actions were "absolutely incomprehensible, a moment of madness."(dpa)
