Google to unveil Ice Cream Sandwich on October 19 in Hong Kong Internet giant, Google is planning to release the next version of its Android operating system, known as Android Ice Cream Sandwich on October 19 in Hong Kong, at an event which will also see the launch of a new smartphone by Samsung powered by new Android.

Samsung and Google had planned to launch Ice Cream Sandwich and the new device in San Diego on October 11. However, the two companies decided to delay the launch while the world paid tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died last week.

"We are unpacking our new Android phone in concurrence with Google," Samsung said in a statement on Friday.

It is widely believed that Samsung will release Nexus Prime handset powered by Ice Cream Sandwich. The new platform will address the issue of fragmentation in the Android platform. The new version of Android will work on both smartphone and tablet computers.

The Ice Cream Sandwich event will be streamed live to the Web through a dedicated page on YouTube, Google's video sharing website.
