Google India says it isn’t accountable for any defamatory content posted on “Blogger”The subsidiary of Google, the Menlo Park, California based internet giant – Google India, on Monday, in the Bombay High Court, maintained that it has no control on content publication on Google’s blog-hosting website 'Blogger', formerly known as Blogspot.

Google India was taken to the Bombay High Court by Dr Aswhin Mehta, a cardiologist at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital, for publishing blogs containing defamatory material about him.

Dr. Mehta filed lawsuit against Google India after someone published a number of defamatory blogs (over 20 blogs), alleging that Dr. Mehta indulge in both professional and financial misconduct, on Google’s Blogger.

In his suit filed against Google India, Dr. Mehta claimed that he suffered incalculable harm and injury to his name, fame, standing and reputation, because of defamatory blogs.

The HC restrained Google India from publishing any such material about Dr. Mehta. Obeying the court’s order, the defamatory content was removed from the website, but Google India filed an appealed in the court, in which, it has stated that it can not monitor what is posted on blogs all the time. Google India maintained that it is not accountable for any defamatory material posted on the Blogger, which is owned by the parent company.
