Former Qantas CFO Gary Toomey reportedly to become CEO of Jet Airways

Former Qantas CFO Gary Toomey reportedly to become CEO of Jet AirwaysQantas Airways' former chief financial officer (CFO) Gary Toomey will replace Nikos Kardassis as Jet Airways (India) Ltd's next chief executive officer (CEO), two people familiar with the developments at the company said.

The reported appointment Toomey has indicated that India's civil aviation companies are yet to have proper homespun chief executives barring IndiGo.

K. Sudarshan, head of London-based global executive search firm EMA Partners International Ltd's Indian operations, noted, "Before Kardassis, who is serving his second stint as CEO of Jet Airways and was a part of the firm's 1993 founding team, Austrian Wolfgang Prock-Schauer led the airline."

South African Neil Raymond Mills is the chief executive of SpiceJet, while low-fare carrier GoAir is being run by Italian Giorgio De Roni.

Apart from Australia's Quantas, Toomey has served Airlines Papua New Guinea, Air New Zealand, as well as Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd.

While Jet Airways and its foreign partner Etihad declined to comment on the report about the selection of Toomey, an Australian, for the top post, Toomey could not be contacted for a comment.

The country's Mumbai-based second largest carrier by passengers carried is going to have a new CEO just around a week after Etihad Airways of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to purchase a 24 per cent stake in the Indian carrier for $379 million.
