Ford unveils self-driving fusion hybrid research car

Ford-FusionWashington, Dec 13 : Ford has unveiled the Fusion Hybrid research vehicle which is capable of driving on its own by detecting the surroundings with its sensors.

A Ford official said that the company's goal is to test the limits of full automation and determine the appropriate levels for near- and mid-term deployment, the Verge reports.

The company said that most of the automation won't be deployed until after 2025, yet it intends to phase in pieces of it before that.

According to the report, the fusion vehicle includes four whirling, cylindrical Lidar detectors on its roof in addition to a 360-degree camera.

Ford said these vehicles will be able to reduce traffic congestion, correct driving errors, help avoid collisions, and cut down on fuel costs through more efficient driving patterns. (ANI)
