FM optimistic to attain 9% GDP growth

Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that the government's fiscal measures will show results in next one and half year, putting the country's economy back on the 9 per cent growth trajectory.

Addressing industry leaders in Goa, the FM said: "There are certain economic measures taken which will start showing their results in the next one and a half years. Over this period, we will be able to come back to the 9% GDP growth."

The FM, at the inauguration function of the Indian Customs and Central Excise National Museum in Goa, said that the government has injected NR 186,000 crore into the economy that will show tangible results in next few months.

The economy has already been put on recovery path, as indicated by the growth reported by six core sectors of the economy; after the measures taken by the Center to revive demand in the monetary system.

Mr. Mukherjee added: "We are still facing many problems of recession; it will take time to get back to 9-10% of GDP. Earliest signs will be visible by September 2010."
Terming poverty eradication as the government's top agenda, the FM said that it will automatically address the slowdown problem.
