New Delhi, Jan 24 : A fast track court at the Saket District Court complex here, began hearing arguments on framing of charges against five accused in the December 16 Delhi gang rape case on Thursday.

According to media reports, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Thursday rejected a petition filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy seeking to declare the six accused -- a juvenile -- as an adult and have him prosecuted along with the five others.

Swamy had sought a change of status by Principal Magistrate Geetanjali Goel on grounds that Vinay Sharma''s act was brutal and the crime committed by him showed that it was not the action of a juvenile.

Swamy had referred to the "discrepancies" between the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"The JJ Act terms those above 18 as adults, while the IPC says its 12," Swamy said adding "The concept of criminal responsibility needs to be added into the Act and allow the court to differentiate between innocent children and juvenile delinquents". (ANI)
